It is funny if you calculate the days your mom cooked,
she absolutely cooked a million meals. If you grew up in a provincial area maybe your
mom cooks in a traditional way too chances are your dad might be one of the
best cook for you because you can count on your fingers the times he had served
his special dish.

My Dad’s favourite menu is “BINATOG” a filipino delicacy ( Boiled White Corn
with Coconut and Sugar) he can always be
counted on this one. It is very simple yet
the smell itself could fill our bellies, but the actual meal was the most
delicious. (To this day, I can only buy this on a street vendor with their loud
bling bling rusty bell alarming the people that he is arriving, he is riding in a
bicycle, and drives so fast!) so all we have to do is run
down the stairs, galloped out the door, and hail the cart off the street.
Within minutes, We are in heaven with this mouth watering “binatog” a filipino delicacy ( Boiled
White Corn with Coconut and Sugar) and reminiscing
our memories with our Dad (He’s always remembered in our heart) , but let’s
face it – nothing tastes as good as a memory. He had his secret recipe that no
one can duplicate it.
A Filipino Delicacy "Binatog" ( Boiled White Corn with Coconut and Sugar)
Realizing the value in polishing my cooking expertise, My Dad insisted that I sit in the kitchen with him as he prepared some food. While he
cooked, sautéed and stewed delicious dishes, I jotted down each step and stored
them all in my mental recipe book and the most important things I learned was the lessons on independence, self-reliance,
and creativity that my father imparted as he cooked through these stove-side sessions.
I learned not only how to be a good cook, but to be a good girl.

What I've learned from my Dad are some precious kitchen Tips ‘Clean as you cook; have a beautiful presentation as much as the preparation;
the ingredients should be fresh for a better tasting food; you should always bring out the
flavor of the food; Always experiment because recipes are only a guide ’ My Dad
would make it a family activity, and we came to cherish those moments with him.
Kitchen has always been a special place, it is the soul
of any home, the place from which all the warmth and nourishment radiate. Some
people spend holidays in the kitchen chopping onions, roasting chicken and
preparing snacks instead of going somewhere else.
